Feeling Confident When Dating
Dating can be a terrifying thing for both men and women. However, confidence is the key to success. And, most importantly, it can be learned.
Maybe you’ve been on a date with somebody who seemed far more confident than you, but the truth is that they were probably nervous too. As we’ll discuss in this article, confidence is something that you gradually acquire, but you can certainly project a relaxed image until you reach that stage.
Here’s some advice on feeling confident when dating.
Don’t hold back when talking.
Nothing gives your date the impression that you’re a confident person more than social aptitude. You might feel like a socially awkward person, but it’s all about faking it until you make it, as we’ll discuss later.
Your date might be doing the same thing if that helps; everybody is just feigning confidence until they actually feel confident. And when it comes to conversation, you need to be bold. You need to show that you’re willing to discuss all manner of things and really drive the conversation forward.
Obviously, speaking the truth doesn’t mean that you need to pour your heart out on your very first date; you can gradually discuss heavy topics as you get to know the person over time. But you should be assertive enough to put your opinion on the table. Don’t shy away from the conversation.
If your date asks about your plans for the future then answer confidently. Keep the discussion flowing because that’s the mark of a confident man.
Work on your appearance.
Confidence stems from a feeling of self-worth, at the end of the day. If you’re going to project the image of a confident and attractive man on a date then you need to actually feel confident and attractive. After all, confidence is a huge part of what makes you attractive to other people.
You’re probably more concerned with your appearance than anyone else in the world, so that’s why you need to feel happy with the way you look. If there’s something about your appearance that’s affecting your self-esteem then you should aim to fix it. Perhaps you’re not happy with your hair; you could look into hair transplant services that could naturally restore your locks to their former glory.
Perhaps you’re not happy with your weight; that might be the motivation you need to start eating more healthily. A healthy diet can also improve your mental health (this will positively impact your confidence).
Of course, being physically attractive might not be the cause of your concerns. Perhaps you’re simply worried about your fashion sense. After all, the clothes you wear play a big part in your overall appearance. It doesn’t matter how good your figure might be if you don’t wear attire that accentuates your figure.
That doesn’t mean you need to revert to your teenage years and start wearing skinny jeans again - it means that your wardrobe needs to look tailor-made for you. Your attire should be slim-fitting, at the very least. The better-fitted your clothing, the more intentional your look will seem.
The goal is to put thought into your outfit and make it clear that you’ve done so. A simple accessory, such as a watch or some nice cufflinks, can make all the difference when tying your outfit together.
Your clothing doesn’t need to be lavish and extravagant, but your date will notice and appreciate the smaller details.
Fake it until you make it.
Confidence is all in the mind. You might feel like a nervous wreck before a date, but it’s important to remember that your date may very well feel the same.
All that matters is the way in which you present yourself. There’s nothing wrong with nerves, but you shouldn’t let them get in the way of you and your date enjoying the evening. If you can fake confidence then this will make a good first impression on your date. They’ll be able to relax when they see how comfortable you are.
In turn, this should help you to actually feel more confident because you’ll realize that there was nothing to worry about. Of course, you don’t want to be overconfident and make your date feel uncomfortable; it’s all about finding the right balance. You’re still a human being, at the end of the day.
And admitting that you were a little bit nervous before coming can make your date feel at ease about their own nerves. You can be confident without seeming like a careless person. Walk confidently and smile, but make sure you keep yourself humble and grounded. Don’t make the evening all about you, in other words. There’s a difference between confidence and arrogance.
